Thank God for those red letters. The Words of salvation. If it wasn’t for those red letters, where would we be now? More importantly, what would our future be? What promises would we hold on to? Would hope still lift our countenance? Not just for the grave, but for now. Along with the Words of Christ, we find life giving assurances. At the loss of those blood-filled letters, would we still hunger for peace? Would we still seek or even wonder of eternal life?
It is written,
“You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me”,John 5:39
Jesus spoke of His life-giving power and revealed the Heart of the Father.
Those red letters broke our bondages and released us from our brokenness. Crushed our sin and discarded our iniquities. Because of the red letters, our white washed tombs can now become temples of the living God. The Word of God became flesh and lived among us, sinless and taught us how to live in righteous standing with YHWH, deny ourselves, and take up our cross. The Sovereign Lord was pleased to lay down His life as a ransom that we may live in Him, in freedom.
The red letters are not only unique but inclusive, inviting us to be His children. God didn’t keep us far off, He prayed that we will remain in Him, be one with Him, just AS He is one with the Father. The red letters revealed the law. But not only did they reveal the law, they fulfilled it, and all that is within Him, lives in wholeness, perfected.
Included in His marvelous grace, Christ breathed, giving us the Holy Spirit that would reveal to us all truth. The red letters taught us how to believe and corrected us when we doubted. The red letters revealed the wisdom of God and invited us back into His presence with boldness and confidence. His words completed the job and prepared a new home for us.
The red letters revealed to us who we were without Him who spoke. Not to condemn us, but to give us life and life more abundantly. To give us eternal life in Christ Jesus, the one who broke our prison and offered us not a better way, but the only way. His arms spread accursed on the tree, He hung there to die, that He may put those very blessed arms around you today. Thank God for those Red Letters!
